EFF Patent Busting
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has published a list of 10 technology patents that it wants to see revised or killed. EFF claims that companies are using these patents to limit free expression.

The EFF takes a shot at one of my least-favorite companies, Clear Channel (who pulled Howard Stern from the Louisville airwaves). They recently bought a patent for "Instant Live" which covers technology used to produce instant recordings of live concerts. CC is now going after artists who choose to give fans CDs of their shows. Yet another reason to not support Clear Channel.

The other big name on the list is Nintendo who has patented video-game emulators. These emulators used to be allowable under the fair use doctrine; however, the EFF claims Nintendo is being a bully by trying to stop them. I'm not sure what Nintendo has to gain by stopping emulators for playing their old games. If anything, emulators could be used a brand-building tool.
