RIAA suing Louisville teen
The parents of a 17 year-old Sacred Heart student are facing up to $750,000 in fines if they don't settle with the RIAA (for around $4,000). According to the RIAA, the girl downloaded around 1,000 illegal mp3s.

I think this is the wrong long-term approach for the recording industry to take. Sure, piracy is a problem (and I don't support the idea that people should be able to download music for free); however, the RIAA needs to recognize that the market has changed. They need to be looking for new opportunities in the digital marketplace instead of trying to sue everyone into supporting an outdated model.

While I think the lawsuits may deter people from downloading illegal mp3s, I don't think it is going to increase the sale of CDs. So, I'm not sure why RIAA is spending all of this money of lawsuits when it isn't going to help them solve their core problem.

I've been using Rhapsody for 2 years and would never go back. I love the idea of music as a service. While I still buy new CDs from artists that I like, I enjoy having access to all of the other music that I wouldn't want to shell out $15 for.
