My Woot! came today
FedEx dropped off my Woot! booty this afternoon.

After doing some research online, it looks like I will be able to do the install myself. The hardest part is actually getting the radio out. VW radios require a special tool to remove them. Fortunately, the removal tools are available on ebay for about $10. The other tricky part will be wiring the Omnifi unit to the electrical system of the car. I've got a soldering iron, so how hard can it be, right?

The biggest bummer of the whole thing is that my Volkswagen radio doesn't have an RCA input which the Omnifi system requires. My options are a) buy an $80 RF modulator that broadcasts the MP3s over my radio (and sounds crappy) or b) purchase a $55 converter that attaches to the empty CD changer port on the back of my VW radio. While I am not pleased with having to buy this part, I am glad that I won't have to shell out $75 to have somebody install it (and they would have had to buy the part, too).

Oh and lastly, as one of my coworkers suspected, it looks like everyone who bought one of these sets on Woot! is selling it on ebay. So much for my plan to quickly sell half of the set to pay for the other half. I may wait it out a few days until the initial auctions close and see what the market looks like.
